PNP Surigao Norte alerts troops amidst the effects of heavy rains due to the Shear Line in Christmas

Police authorities remain on full alert after Shearline triggered severe rainfall today, which brought heavy rains that caused flash floods and landslides.

Police Colonel Laudemer M. Laude, Provincial Director, disclosed that PNP personnel were already deployed to assist in search and rescue operations. Assist in the evacuation of residents in flood-prone areas that experienced heavy floods.

Further, disaster response equipment and supplies were prepositioned already in the areas most likely affected by the heavy rainfall.

As of 3:00 p.m. of December 25, a situational report from SDNPPO’s Tactical Operations Center that a total of 124 families, comprised of 347 individuals, had been successfully evacuated from their residences and brought to seven evacuation centers.

Of the 124 families, 70 were from Gigaquit town, 45 were from Tubod, and nine were from Bacuag town.

“The PNP personnel on standby are ready for deployment anytime the need arises. We urge everyone to be alert and follow proactive evacuation. Listen to authorities and immediately call the emergency response if there are any concerns in their areas,” PD Laude added.
