TOKYO Olympics silver medalist Nesthy Petecio will share her Olympic journey in the Philippine Sports Commission’s “Rise Up Shape Up” web program on Sunday.

Petecio etched her name in Philippine sports history by clinching the women’s featherweight silver medal of boxing in Tokyo.

The proud daughter of Santa Cruz in Davao del Norte is the first Filipina to win an Olympic boxing medal for the Philippines.

Petecio’s feat also ended the country’s 25-year medal drought in the sport since Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco clinched also a silver in the 1996 Atlanta Games.

Joining the show are Petecio coaches Nolito “Boy” Velasco and Reynaldo Galido, along with her teammates Annie Albania, Ana Lisa Cruz and her sister Hansel Petecio.

Saluting to Filipina athletes’ strength and grit,

“The episode will highlight women empowerment through sports,” PSC Women in Sports Oversight Commissioner Celia Kiram said.

“What a time to be alive for Filipina athletes! We have female athletes who are history-makers, showing the whole world that women in sports are also capable of making names in the greatest stage—the Olympics,” said Kiram, who will also talk about the history of women’s boxing in her K-Isport segment.
