PCIC gives 1.5M worth of indemnity checks to Surigao city farmers

Surigao City – The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) distributed indemnity checks amounting to P1.5 million to 337 farmer-beneficiaries in Surigao City today, July 12, 2023. The distribution program, in collaboration with the City Agriculture Office, was held at C.V. Diez Elementary School.

The ceremony marked the successful distribution of indemnity checks to farmers from 14 barangays, totaling P1,583,231.00. This initiative is a result of the partnership between the City Government of Surigao and PCIC, aimed at providing comprehensive insurance coverage to farmers, guaranteeing them a return on their investment in the event of natural calamities affecting their crops.

Gina C. Terencio, a member of the PCIC Board of Directors, emphasized the importance of farmers continuing to avail themselves of the agency’s services and insuring their crops. Such measures can significantly reduce losses in the face of calamities.

The distribution program was attended by Acting City Agriculturist Amelita Dela Cerna, City Budget Officer Atty. Jeffrey Galido, City Councilor Joseph Joey S. Yuipco, PCIC Supervisors Mohammad Hammam Ibrahim, Niel Igloria, and Ermie Jabagat, as well as Josephine Ello, Officer-in-Charge of Admin and Finance Division.

Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II expressed his deep gratitude to the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation for its unwavering support and assistance to farmers in times of need and during disasters.

Two farmer-recipients, Vilmar Abian from Brgy. Anomar and Ariel Sitoy from Brgy. Luna, conveyed their appreciation to the City Government of Surigao and PCIC.

“Dako karajaw ini na tabang sa amo mga simple na farmers, dili masayang amo kahago sa paguma sanan masiguro na kalidad ang amo mga ani,” Abian said.
