A year they were into office, a recent survey said the approval and trust ratings of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo remain stable.

The PAHAYAG 2023 Second Quarter poll showed that Marcos’ approval rating increased slightly to 62 percent from 60 percent last quarter.

It said the Visayas, Catholic, and Government Workers segments showed significant increases in approval.

Also, the survey said Vice President Duterte maintained her approval rating at 67 percent and enjoyed overwhelming support in Mindanao at 79 percent.

However, the poll said approval ratings for the President and the Vice President dropped significantly in North Central Luzon (NCL) and among the non-Catholic population.

Additionally, the poll shows the trust ratings of Marcos Jr. and Duterte-Carpio slightly decline to 54 percent and 61 percent, respectively.

But it remains to be “statistically stable,” the survey added.

The results also highlight significant drops in trust ratings among specific segments of the population.

Among individuals aged 18-24, President Marcos’ trust rating decreased to 45 percent, while Vice President Duterte-Carpio’s trust rating dropped to 47 percent within the same age group.

For Non-Catholics, it said Duterte-Carpio’s trust rating declined to 59 percent. Among families with overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), President Marcos’ trust rating decreased by 54 percent.

The poll also highlights the approval ratings for House Speaker Martin Romualdez, with notable shifts in public opinion.

The House Speaker gains more opposition during this quarter of 19 percent from 15 percent last Quarter, particularly in the National Capital Region (NCR), and to some extent in the Southern Luzon (SL) and Mindanao (MIN) regions, but maintains a steady overall approval rating of 42 percent and trust rating of 32 percent.

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri maintained a stable approval rating of 48 percent in Q2, which remained consistent with the 47 percent rating in Q1. Similarly, his trust rating remained unchanged at 37 percent from the previous quarter’s 38 percent.

Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo also experienced a stable approval rating of 38 percent in Q2, maintaining the same rating as in Q1, which was 39 percent. Additionally, his trust rating remained consistent at 32 percent.

In terms of individual qualities and characteristics, the survey said President Marcos is distinguished for his humility and eloquence, which he shares with Senate President Zubiri. Vice President Duterte-Carpio, on the other hand, is strongly associated with bravery that resonates with the public.

Furthermore, it added the two legislative chiefs and Chief Justice Gesmundo are expected to uphold the law, with Zubiri perceived slightly more as fair-minded and just compared to the other officials.

“Overall, the report indicates a relatively stable trust and approval rating for government officials and agencies, reflecting the public’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of the country. As the nation moves forward, these insights provide valuable information for policymakers and decision-makers to better serve the needs and expectations of the Filipino people,” said the pollster.

The PAHAYAG 2023 Second Quarter Survey (PQ2), conducted by PUBLiCUS Asia Inc. between 7 and 12 June 2023, has 1,500 respondents randomly drawn from a market research panel of over 200,000 Filipinos.
