A number coding scheme for private vehicles has been eyed in Zamboanga in an effort to ease traffic in the city.
Leonard Alcala, Technical Working Group (TWG) head of the Local Transport Route Plan (LTRP) claimed the implementation of the scheme will reduce the number of vehicles in the street of Zamboanga by 20% daily.
The traffic scheme would also encourage owners of private vehicles to patronize the modern buses that will soon ply the main thoroughfares of the city, Alcala said.
“The modernization plan will encourage private car users to shift to public transport” system, he added.
On the other hand, Noel Noche, city district head, Land Transportatin Office said the number of new vehicles has been increasing yearly by 6 percent.
The 2019 data showed that there are 105,534 vehicles plying the thoroughfares of the city, Noche claimed.
“Unless the city government will do something on its traffic route plan, traffic will be chaotic in the years ahead,” Noche further claimed.
