A member of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) was restricted to the headquarters here after he tested positive for illegal drug use.

Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, Nocppo’s deputy public information officer, said they learned about it after the policeman’s confirmatory result was released recently.

The said policeman was among the 33 personnel who were subjected to a random drug testing at the headquarters on January 29, she added.

Donasco said the non-commissioned officer was assigned to a police station and was moved to the provincial police office, where he was restricted.

She also said that the cop has already surrendered his service firearm to the authorities.

Donasco said the cop was given 15 days to contest the result of the drug test. “We’ll have to wait kung ano ang gagawin niya about it,” she added.

The said police officer is the first personnel of Nocppo who tested positive for drug use this year, she said.

In December 2020, a policeman assigned in Candoni Municipal Police Station also tested positive for drug use and was already transferred to Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 in Iloilo.

Donasco said Nocppo continues to conduct random drug testing among their personnel, as part of the internal cleansing of the Philippine National Police (PNP). (Glazyl Masculino via tdg, photo by tdg)
