Personnel from Police Station 9 Thursday confiscated 49 cases of smuggled cigarettes inside two vans abandoned in AMR Zone 1 barangay Cawit.
The operation was carried out in the presence of Barangay Tanods of Barangay Cawit, said Police Regional Office 9 Spokesman P/Capt. Edwin Duco.
The smuggled items contain 2,450 rims of cigarettes with an estimated value of ₱ 490K.
Investigation revealed that elements of the said police station spotted two vehicles abandoned in the area, a White Mitsubishi truck with plate number XMK 368 and another Isuzu white truck, bearing plate number YOD 975 .
Upon checking, Duco said, the operatives together with Barangay Tanods of the said barangay, discovered that the said vehicles are loaded with 49 cases of alleged smuggled cigarettes.
Police placed the estimated value of the said contraband at ₱ 490,000.00.
Duco said, the two vehicles and their cargoes were turned over the the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition, while the owner of the cargo and vehicles are still unknown.
