Makatao Empowers IP Communities In Davao Del Norte

The Maguintalunan Homebased Workers Association (MHWA) finally signed a Memorandum of Agreement with 16 registered contractors in connection with their hollow block production livelihood project which required the contractors to get the 25 percent of their hollow block requirements from MHWA every time they have projects from the LGU Santo Tomas.

The objective of the agreement is to ensure sustainable income of the association as they will have assured market of their products. The association will also receive additional 2 mechanical hollow block machines and a mixer from the provincial government of Davao del Norte as pledged by Hon. Edwin I Jubahib, Governor Davao del Norte during the program.

The event which was held at Sitio Maguintalunan of Brgy New Visayas on 18 July 2020 was witnessed by Hon. Edwin I. Jubahib, Governor, Davao del Norte, LTGEN JOSE C FAUSTINO JR PA, Commander, EMC, MGEN REUBEN S BASIAO PA, Commander, 10ID, BGEN NOLASCO A MEMPIN PA, 1003BDE, Hon Ernesto Evangelista, Municipal Mayor, LTC ROLLY FIGUEROA GSC (CE), Commanding Officer, 534th Engineering Battalion, PNP Counterparts headed by PMAJ FREDERICK DELIS, SB Members, and Department Heads of LGU, Santo Tomas and LTC SILAS D TRASMONTERO INF (GSC) PA, Commander, 89th Infantry (MAKATAO) Battalion.

Apart from the hollow block production project, the Provincial Office of DDN also turned over Cardava Banana Seedlings to the POs of So Talos of Brgy San Jose and Sitios Mangga, Balulao, Maligatong all of Brgy Magwawa. Likewise, participants were taken on a tour of the Talos IP Eco-Tourism Park which was designed by the Battalion and 534th Engr Battalion and fully supported by LGU Santo Tomas, and of the mushroom production area of Cogonal Farmers Association at So Cogonal, Brgy San Jose, Davao del Norte.

Lastly, the participants visited the high hills of Balagunan View Deck, So. Campo, Brgy. Balagunan to assess the area and the possibilities of developing the location into a tourist destination and constructing a farm -to-market road from So Alexandra, Brgy Colosas, PDDC.

Generally, the tour visit aimed at showcasing, monitoring and further improving the ongoing projects for each community paving the way for the general improvement of the status of living of residents in the said sitios.

The Makatao Battalion, as a catalyst of peace and development in the IP areas, continuously works hand in hand with the various government agencies and the private sector in improving the lives of the people to create a safer and more ensured future of the communities within its Area of Responsibility. 89th Infantry (MAKATAO) Battalion
