Magnitude 5.3 Quake Hits Burgos, Surigao Del Norte

    A magnitude 5.3 quake jolted Surigao del Norte on Thursday, with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology saying its effect was felt as far as Samar.

    The temblor’s epicenter was located 24 kilometers east of Burgos, which is around 66 kilometers from the capital of Surigao City.

    Phivolcs said Intensity III was felt in Surigao City and Rosario, Agusan del Sur.

    Intensity II was felt in Borongan City, Eastern Samar and Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, while Intensity I was felt in Catbalogan City, Samar.

    No damage is expected from the quake, although aftershocks may be experienced, Phivolcs said.  (CNN Philippines Staff)
