LISTED lender East West Banking Corp. (EastWest Bank) announced it has appointed a new member to its Board of Directors, effective end-September this year.

In a statement last Tuesday, the bank said it has included Filipino-Singaporean banking and finance professional Jerry Ngo to its Board of Directors, following the retirement of Director Nelson M. Bona.

The bank said Ngo has 20 years of extensive experience in key positions in the Asian region, as well as considerable experience in digital and finance consultancy.

He served as chief financial officer and board director at Indonesian investing firm Saratoga Investama Sedaya.

Before that, he was the institutional banking head and executive director for ANZ Bank Indonesia, and served as managing director for Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia at Standard Chartered Bank.

He also held various roles in product management, sales and operations in Manila, South Korea and Singapore while in Citibank.

The new EastWest official received his MBA from the University of Chicago-Booth School of Business, completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School and earned his Master of Management from the University of San Jose-Recoletos in Cebu City.

Ngo currently serves as a consultant for the Filinvest Development Corp., the managing director and founder of regional consultancy firm Ora et Labora Capital Partners, and the vice-chairman for Asia at Canary Wharf, London-headquartered financial services firm Delta Capita Group Ltd., which provides digital financial solutions to customers around the world.

“It is his vast experience and knowledge in technology, corporate governance across numerous industries in banking, private equity, and investments which led EastWest to appoint Ngo as one of its Directors of the Board,” Jonathan T. Gotianun, EastWest Chairman, was quoted in a statement as saying.

“We also express our utmost gratitude to Bona for his contributions to and guidance of the bank and wish him all the best in his retirement,” Gotianun added.
