A lawmaker said he suspects that President Duterte’s confirmation to run as vice president in next year’s elections was a mere “diversionary tactic” meant to divert public attention away from the controversial Commission on Audit (COA) reports on his government agencies.

Bayan Muna Rep. Ferdinand Gaite, in a news statement, said President Duterte is obviously just putting on a show, a “political circus to distract everyone from the more important issues haunting his corrupt and inutile regime.”

“Health Secretary Francisco Duque III’s drama was not able to calm the public’s anger and now they are floating another issue to be talked about. But the people will not fall for this pathetic clown or magician’s act of misdirection to confuse the people.”

But whatever their formula is for the upcoming elections, Gaite believed that the public would reject the tandem of Sen. Bong Go and Duterte.

“Be it the puppet and master tandem Go-Duterte or the despicably dynastic tandem Sara-Rodrigo, the people are sure to reject the political maneuvers of the Duterte regime to escape accountability for its numerous crimes against the people. Nangangarap na at nakatanaw na ang sambayanan sa isang Pilipinas na walang Duterte sa kapangyarihan. We will not be fooled,” he said.

In a previous statement, the PDP-Laban has maintained that President Duterte remains the ruling party’s best candidate as vice president in the 2022 national elections with Go as his presidential running mate.

President Duterte said that while he has agreed to run for vice president, he and Go are willing to give way if his daughter Mayor Sara Duterte, makes her own bid for the presidency in 2022.
