Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez, Butuan City – An active member of Militia ng Bayan and supporter of the Communist Terrorist Group’s (CTG) Guerilla Front 16A was killed in a shootout with the police operatives in Brgy. San Pedro, Sison, Surigao del Norte past midnight yesterday, November 27.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 director BRIGADIER GENERAL ROMEO M CARAMAT, JR identified the slain suspect as Josefino Calang a.k.a Lalo, of legal age, resident of the abovementioned place.
During the implementation of search warrant, the suspect pulled out his gun upon seeing the operating troops of Sison Municipal Police Station and 1st Surigao del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company around 12:45 AM.
One hand grenade, and a cal. 38 revolver were seized from the suspect’s possession. The implementation of search warrant was also witnessed by the barangay officials of San Pedro.
“The suspect was identified by the local entrepreneurs in Sison town as the one collecting extortion money for the CTG. The businessmen were forced to give in to their demands for the fear of their lives and properties,” the PRO13 top cop added.
The operation was based on the strength of search warrant issued by the 2nd Municipal Circuit Trial Court, Sison-Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte for violation of R.A. No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
