Iriga: Sangguniang Panlalawigan members of the Bicol Region engage in a series of informative sessions as part of the Newly-Elected Officials (NEO) Orientation course

    DILG 5, in partnership with the Local Government Academy (LGA) and the Provincial Board Members’ League of the Philippines (PBMLP) – Bicol Chapter formally opens the two-day Newly-Elected Officials (NEO) Orientation Course with the theme “Primed Leaders for Renewed Local Governance for Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members cum Presentation of Capacity Development Analysis Result” , May 11, 2023 at The Marison Hotel, Legazpi City.

    PBMLP Regional President – Bicol Chapter Dante R. Arandia warmly welcomed all the participants and guests during his opening message and expressed his appreciation for their positive response to the noteworthy undertaking. He also emphasized the purpose of the event which is to enhance the capacities of the members of the provincial board and the Sangguniang secretaries in the region.

    Meanwhile, Albay Governor Edcel Greco Lagman expressed his gratitude to his fellow legislators for their collective participation in the activity. He also reminded them to remain committed to their oversight functions and assured the members of the highest policy-making body in the province of his full support for any legislation that would truly redound to the benefit of the common constituents’ general welfare.

    Atty. Arnaldo E. Escober Jr., CESO V, DILG R5 Regional Director, who gave a keynote message, emphasized the importance of the orientation. He likewise extended his appreciation to all public servants who devoted their time to participate in the activity. He also highlighted the Department’s unwavering dedication and commitment to further strengthen the capabilities and skills of the provincial board members in local legislation and encourage them to help LGUs be more competitive in policy development and local legislation.

    The NEO orientation course is designed to provide SP members with a deep understanding of the various facets of local governance. The five-session course will cover critical topics in governance and public administration. Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan will learn about the importance of adaptability, legal frameworks, administrative governance, and development legislation.
