As the Christmas season approaches and crowds begin to grow in the Bicol Region, Police Regional Office 5 (PRO 5) has activated intensified security measures under its annual holiday initiative, “Ligtas Paskuhan 2025.” This program, which forms part of the PNP’s nationwide efforts during the holidays, aims to ensure a safe, peaceful, and enjoyable celebration for the public during one of the year’s busiest periods.

Holiday traffic has already begun to increase in bus terminals, airports, seaports, commercial districts, and popular tourist destinations. With families traveling home, students returning from urban centers, and shoppers flocking to malls, bazaars, and night markets, authorities anticipate a significant rise in public activity. To address this, PNP Bicol has placed all units on heightened alert and mobilized a total of 4,609 personnel—composed of 3,310 PRO 5 police officers, 389 augmentation forces from specialized units, and 910 members of advocacy support groups and force multipliers.

These personnel will be strategically deployed in the different parts of the region to enhance police visibility in high-traffic areas such as transport hubs, churches hosting Simbang Gabi, major commercial centers, recreational venues, and other holiday event locations. Increased patrol operations, checkpoints, and mobile patrols will also be implemented to deter criminal activity and enable quick responses to emergencies.

PRO 5 Acting Regional Director PBGEN Erosito N Miranda emphasized the unwavering commitment of the police force to safeguard the public throughout the season.

“We will be on heightened alert. Instead of going on vacations or resting, our personnel will be actively engaged in ensuring public safety throughout the Christmas season. Our goal is to maintain order and stability so that every Bicolano can celebrate Christmas without fear or worry,” he said.

He also underscored the need for continuous police operations to prevent crimes that typically rise during the holidays—including theft, robbery, scams, and cyber-related threats. With increased financial transactions, travel arrangements, and online shopping in December, the PNP urges the public to remain cautious, vigilant, and aware of potential risks.

To further strengthen security efforts, PNP Bicol is working closely with local government units to harmonize protocols for community-based activities such as fireworks displays, Christmas programs, and nightly markets. Barangay officials are encouraged to reactivate community patrols and promote active reporting of suspicious individuals or activities.

Despite the heightened alert status, the PNP remains confident that Bicolanos will experience a peaceful and joyful holiday season. PBGEN Miranda reiterated this dedication: “Christmas has always been a cherished time. Whether you are attending Simbang Gabi, traveling to your hometown, buying gifts, or

simply enjoying the festive lights, we want you to celebrate with peace of mind. Your safety is our commitment, and we are here to ensure that every moment of your holiday season is filled with joy and free from worry.”

Through “Ligtas Paskuhan 2025,” PNP Bicol reaffirms not only its operational readiness but also its genuine commitment to fostering a secure and reassuring environment where the true spirit of Christmas—joy, family, and togetherness—can be fully appreciated.

This initiative aligns with the ideals of the PNP under PLTGEN Jose Melencio C Nartatez, Acting Chief, PNP, embodying the vision of “Bagong PNP sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”###
