GIGMOTO, Catanduanes (PIA) — At least 2,871 families here have received free rice, thanks to a P30-million Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) provided by the national government, Mayor Vicente Tayam Jr. said earlier this week.
In a local radio interview, Tayam expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. for the funding assistance extended to his town through the LGSF.
Tayam said that the support enabled the municipal government to implement vital programs that directly benefited residents.
These included a P12.5 million rice subsidy for families to help them cope with the ongoing energy crisis and P17.5 million allocated for road concreting projects aimed at improving travel and stimulating the local economy.
“I would like to express my deep satisfaction and gratitude to our beloved President, His Excellency Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and our Interior Secretary, Jonvic Remulla, for the P30 million assistance provided to us through the LGSF,” he said.
“This is a significant amount that has made a difference during this time of crisis, allowing us to distribute a 50-kilogram sack of rice to every family in our town of Gigmoto,” he said.
“Thanks to this support, the economic difficulties caused by the current energy crisis have been alleviated,” Tayam added.
Gigmoto is one of the first towns in Catanduanes to implement rice distribution using the funds from the national government.
Maria Luz Tatad shared her gratitude for the sack of rice they received, saying, “It significantly reduces our budget since we can now allocate those funds to other daily needs.”
“Thank you very much, President Bongbong,” she added.
Meanwhile, Gregorio Tumalin, the head of Barangay Sioron, praised President Marcos’ LGSF, saying it “gives hope to the poorest in our barangay.”
He added: “With the President’s LGSF, we barangay leaders can demonstrate that our government does not neglect the basic needs of the villagers.”
“So, I am very grateful to the President for the LGSF. Thank you very much, dear President.”
