The Iriga City Association of Private Schools (ICAPS) officially opened its Inter-Private Schools Sportsfest 2025 on November 17, 2025, with Mayor Rex C. Oliva serving as the event’s Guest Speaker. Following an early morning thanksgiving mass at the Parroquia y Santuario Archidiocesano de San Antonio de Padua, the sportsfest commenced at the Ceguera Technological Colleges, bringing together school administrators, teachers, student-athletes, and community partners to celebrate sportsmanship, unity, and excellence in athletics.

In his inspirational message, Mayor Rex highlighted the value of discipline, teamwork, and character-building in the lives of young athletes. He congratulated ICAPS for successfully organizing the event, recognizing it as an important training ground for student-athletes, especially in line with the Arriba Administration’s vision of making Iriga the sports capital of Bicol. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to support the young athletes and the schools that guide them.

As part of the day’s program, Mayor Rex also led the oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected officers of ICAPS, formally welcoming them as they begin their term of service to the city’s private school community.

As a gesture of support, Mayor Rex provided P20,000 cash assistance to ICAPS, along with P3,000 to each competing private school. He also extended P1,000 to each of the muses representing the participating institutions.

Councilor Jor-El O. Caayao, former ICAPS President, also shared encouraging words, emphasizing the association’s mission to develop youth through sports.

The opening ceremony featured a festive presentation of school banners, the lighting of the torch, and the oath of sportsmanship, complemented by performances from the CTC Dance Troupe. These activities symbolized the spirit of camaraderie and fair play that the sportsfest aims to foster.

Mayor Oliva extended his best wishes to all participating schools, organizers, and student-athletes, wishing them a successful and enjoyable competition.
