LEGAZPI CITY (PIA) — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), will open free training courses for government scholars in the Philippines, with the Bicol region as one of the pilot regions.
Eugene Virgo, branch manager of the GSIS Legazpi Branch, said that about 25 slots will be provided for Bicolanos.
The board of trustees selected the Bicol region because it is prone to vulnerabilities due to calamities and natural disasters, according to Virgo.
“This program, under our social corporate responsibility, will equip unemployed dependents of GSIS members and pensioners with job-ready skills in Bicol,” he said.
Qualified applicants include dependents—wife, husband, children, or siblings of active GSIS members with a salary grade of 15, and/or GSIS pensioners. Nominees must be at least 18 years old at the start of training.
Aside from free tuition for the 40-day cookery program, a daily allowance will be provided. The TESDA-accredited school will be at the San Francisco Institute of Science and Technology in Malilipot, Albay.
Applicants must submit a duly signed form and documentary proof of relationship, such as a birth certificate or marriage contract, to the GSIS Legazpi Branch, located along the alternate road of Legazpi City.
“We are inviting our fellow citizens to take advantage of this scholarship program, especially those who are eligible applicants, because this will be a big help to you,” Virgo said, speaking in Filipino.
“The additional knowledge that you can gain will help with your livelihood in the future,” Virgo added.
