Iriga: DOH holds nat’l patient safety summit in Bicol, reinforces role of leadership and capacity building

The Department of Health (DOH) conducted the National Patient Safety Summit on June 6, 2024, at the Marison Hotel in Legazpi City, Albay.

“This gathering serves as a beacon of hope and a platform where ideas converge and commitments are forged in our collective pursuit to eliminate avoidable harm in healthcare,” said Dr. Emmie Liza Perez-Chiong, Undersecretary of Health for the Health Regulation and Facility Development Cluster, in her keynote speech.

The summit featured an overview and updates on the National Policy on Patient Safety, along with a lecture on leadership and governance for patient safety. Panel discussions addressed topics such as enforcing a safety culture, engaging and empowering patients, and the significance of capacity building and research to ensure the highest quality of service and patient safety.

Leaders and representatives from the centers for health development and partner stakeholders pledged their commitment to supporting patient safety programs. Dr. Rodolfo Antonio M. Albornoz, OIC Regional Director of DOH Bicol CHD, expressed his gratitude for the active participation of all attendees.
