On January 14-15, 2025, 20 women from Baras, Catanduanes, joined a skills training program focused on bangus-based products at the Multi-Purpose Training Center, Capitol Compound, Virac. The training, led by resource speakers from the Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Division (RFTFCD), aimed to empower victims of Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Participants learned practical skills like making bottled bangus in oil, deboning bangus, and fish smoking through lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities. On the second day, a “Fish Nโ€™ Learn” session provided financial management tips to help participants make informed decisions about their livelihoods.

Each participant received a starter kit with processing tools and equipment to support their journey into entrepreneurship. Provincial Agriculturist Ace William R. Tria encouraged participants, saying: “We hope youโ€™ll make the most of this opportunity. Letโ€™s not allow the challenges of the past to define our future. This will help you become empowered and start your own business.”

On January 16-17, 2025, 22 members of the Bagatabao Fisherfolk Association attended a livelihood training program on innovative fish processing technology at CFLC, Brgy. Bagatabao, Bagamanoc, Catanduanes.

The program, led by PASO Catanduanes in collaboration with BFAR 5 and PFO Catanduanes, featured lectures and hands-on activities on bangus-based products, including bottling bangus in oil, deboning, and fish smoking. The goal was to help fisherfolk diversify their income through value-added fish products.

Both initiatives are part of the provinceโ€™s commitment to empowering vulnerable groups and enhancing sustainable livelihoods through skills development and support.
