The Municipality of Buhi proudly hosted delegates from Region XIII (CARAGA) for a benchmarking activity at the newly completed AA-standard Municipal Abattoir, a flagship project under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP). The visit was conducted in collaboration with the Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO) V and the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) Region V.
The program opened with a welcome message from Hon. Christian I. Echipare, Municipal Vice Mayor of Buhi, followed by the introduction of the CARAGA delegation by Ma’am Lynn Pariñas, AMAD Chief and I-REAP Component Head of RPCO 13. Dr. Ely Z. Yapan, MPMIU Head of LGU Buhi, shared the project’s history, challenges, and milestones from conceptualization to completion.
One of the key highlights was the facility tour and demonstration of abattoir operations led by Dr. Alex B. Templonuevo, NMIS V Regional Director, emphasizing the importance of food safety and compliance with AA standards. The activity concluded with an engaging open forum, where questions from the delegates were addressed by representatives from PRDP, NMIS V, and Office for Agricultural Services.
The benchmarking served as an avenue for cross-regional learning and practical insights on sustainable infrastructure development and effective agri-fishery program implementation.
