THE Covid-19 pandemic has indeed changed the way enterprises do their business worldwide, according to a top-ranking official of a global enterprise application software provider.

In the recent SAP Sapphire Now 2021 webinar, SAP chief executive officer Christian Klein told the international media that many of them have completely changed their business model overnight, like going from traditional sales to commerce sales.

They have also become more adaptive and dependent on the supply chain to enable home delivery, offer new payment terms, even optimize cashflow, he observed.

“And technology is the enabler to do that,” he said, while noting how helpful it is to achieve more resiliency in this time of crisis.

This trend, said Klein, has been apparent also in their clients in the Philippines, especially during the time when most businesses were affected by the economic restrictions brought about by the implementation of enhanced community quarantines in Metro Manila and other areas highly affected by the coronavirus.

“During the pandemic, the most resilient companies were those who embraced technology to transform their business processes,” he told BusinessMirror in an e-mail interview. “Those who simply leveraged cloud infrastructure and didn’t actually digitalize core business processes did not fare, as well.”

While shifting to digitization has become mission-critical to most entities, more companies have opted to run enterprise computing in the cloud.

Many small and medium enterprises have already done this, but it’s a journey for large enterprises running multiple enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and a wide range of additional enterprise applications.

To enable every business to become an intelligent enterprise, SAP launched the RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, connectivity to SAP Business Network, and a selection of industry cloud solutions for its core business. “Building on the successful introduction of the RISE with SAP offering in January, the packages for specific industries provides business transformation as a service with five initial industry-tailored cloud solutions for retail, consumer products, automotive, utilities and industrial machinery and components,” the CEO noted.
