Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez, Libertad, Butuan City – The personnel of Cantilan Municipal Police Station and Philippine Army troops arrested a motorcycle driver who was caught transporting ammunition and explosives in joint checkpoint in Sitio Nangka, Brgy. Cabangahan, Cantilan, Surigao del Sur yesterday March 14, 2021.
Police Brigadier General ROMEO M. CARAMAT, JR., PNP Caraga director, identified the suspect as Nelson S. Toñacao, 51 year old, and a resident of Sitio Nasipit, Brgy. Adlay, Carrascal, Surigao del Sur.
Toñacao was arrested for Violation of Illegal Possession of Ammunition and Explosives. Suspect failed to present legal documents for the lawful possession of Ammunition and Explosives.
According to Toñacao, someone asked him to load the sack and he was not able to refuse out of pity. He was unaware that the contents of the sack were explosives and ammunition.
Records show that confiscated from Toñacao’s possession were four link of 7.62 mm live ammunition for 60 Cal. with total of 390 live ammunition; six link of 5.56 mm live ammunition green tip for K-3 with total of 609 live ammunition; nine M433 and six RLV-HEF-1 with total of 15 grenade Launcher Ammunitions and more or less 500 sheets of NPA leaflets.
Suspect, who is now under the custody of the police for proper documentation, will face charges for violation R.A 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act.
“I am grateful that the guidance of C, PNP POLICE GENERAL DEBOLD M. SINAS to intensify police operations including the campaign against loose firearms in the region yields good result and the arrest of Toñacao in our checkpoint proves it,” Caraga top cop said.
He added that the campaign against loose firearm ensures that guns, ammunition and explosives will not be used by the lawless elements to commit crimes and other illegal activities.
