Zamboanga del Norte improves placement in the recent result of Cities/ Municipalities Competitiveness Index from its previous 69th placement in 2023, now with Dapitan and Siocon among top competitive city and municipality respectively, Zamboanga del Norte placed at 47th rank in the recent CMCI results released by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development.
Rankings of Cities and Municipalities are based on the sum of their scores on 5 Pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, Resiliency, and Innovation. Provincial rankings are based on population and income weighted average of the overall scores of cities and municipalities under a province. The CMCI can be seen as a tool for diagnosing, guiding, improving, and monitoring local, regional, and even national dimensions of economic development and competitiveness.
Since 2015, Zamboanga del Norte have a fluctuating improvement of its rank from 2015 at 42nd place, 2016 at 41st place, 2017 at 59th place, 2018 at 67th place, 2019 at 58th place, 2020 at 48th place, 2021 at 31st, 2022 at 55th place, 2023 at 69th place and in 2024 at 47th place. It is noted that the most recent placement is the biggest improvement compared to the 2020-2021 placements of the province. Zamboanga del Norte places even higher than Zamboanga Del Sur at 53rd place and Zamboanga Sibugay at 70th place for 2024 CMCI result.
The improve placement of Zamboanga del Norte is a testament of the improve working collaborations of the cities and municipalities in the province with the staunch support on developmental programs implemented by the administration through leadership of Governor Rosalina “Nanay Nene” Jalosjos and Provincial Administrator Wilberth G. Magallanes and the various departments of the provincial government whose mission is to deliver sincere public service all throughout the province.
