Dipolog: Senator Villar praises organic agriculture champions of Zamboanga Del Norte

The country’s agriculture ambassador, the staunch agriculture champion, Senator Cynthia A. Villar, Chairwoman on Agriculture delivers her virtual message of support during 8th Regional Organic Agriculture Congress held at Zamboanga del Norte Convention and Exhibition Center Estaka Dipolog City, October 17 – 19, 2024.

Senator Villar also made the commitment to help ensure a sustainable agriculture through the Zamboanga Peninsula Organic Practitioners. She further stresses that organic agriculture projects touches the lives of many communities who are interested in home gardening. Organic agriculture has seen better days now that the trend and landscape in agriculture has significantly transformed with farmers opting to organic fertilizer due to high cost of synthetic fertilizer.

Further, the Senator vowed to continue promoting the transition to affordable, environment – friendly agricultural practices and making available to many Filipinos healthy and affordable nutritious organic food. Not just learning the technology but also to change the perception of most people on the agriculture sector and raising the appreciation on agricultural practices to help secure the country’s challenge in food production and consumption.

Adding more significance to the event are the presence of Engr. Marcos C. Aves, Sr., the Regional Executive Director, Ms. Janice C. Legaspi, Regional Organic Agriculture Focal Person, Maybel C. Bustaliño, PG – ZDN Provincial Agriculturist who brought together local governments and the organic practitioner sectors from the provinces of Zamboanga Peninsula.

The attendees from all over the province was also awarded certificates and recognitions for Organic Agriculture Livelihood Project (OALP), Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS), Youth Internship Program on Organic Agriculture (YIPOA), supportive LGU, and Organic Agriculture (OA) Technicians.

Learning session were also undertaken to include main trends in the movements and methods for advancement of organic agriculture in the Orientation and pre-registration of web-based Organic Agriculture (OA) and the Fuel Subsidy Program.(Angelica Obina)
