Dipolog: Provincial Solid Waste Management Board augments community participation

The Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Norte successfully holds its second Quarterly Provincial Solid Waste Management Board (PSWMB) Meeting for the calendar year 2024 at the Zamboanga Del Norte Convention and Exhibition Center, Dipolog City last June 28, 2024.

Governor Rosalina “Nanay Nene” Jalosjos in her capacity as Chairman of the board attended the quarterly meeting through the Provincial Environmental Management Office-in-Charge, Mr. Levy H. Lagutin, Jr., and PSWM Focal Person, Mr. Alex Barrera, as the presiding officers. The majority of the regular members of the Provincial Solid Waste Board which includes the City/municipal mayors through their representatives, the Provincial Department Heads, and the representatives from the DILG, DTI, DepEd, DOST, TESDA, NGO, and other agencies of the province were present.

Among the highlights of the said meeting included the issues of Marine Litter, which is a Global problem, and the Philippines as one major contributor based on the recent findings, as reminded by Mr. Barrera. Mr. Lagutin on the other hand emphasized how every individual contributes to waste management problems as we all generate waste every day; thus, everyone should also take part in resolving this problem.

Taking into account securing the proper management of the province’s solid waste management, the board members discussed the status of CLGUs and MLGUs’ compliance on solid waste management. Among the agendas discussed during the said meeting included the following: The Review of PSWMB composition and the inclusion of the representations from the Education and Religious Sector; The Proposed tasks, responsibilities and deliverables of the monitoring committee to be created to monitor every municipality and City on their SWMP implementations and the scheduled “Learning Tour and Cross Visits to LGU with the Best Practices on SWM Across the Nation” to be spearheaded by PEMO through PSWM Focal Person.
