Dipolog: PGZN attends ZamPen Environmental Summit

The Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Management Office led by Mr. Levy H. Lagutin Jr. – OIC conducted the Zamboanga Peninsula Environmental Summit 2024 “Our Environment. Our Future” held at the Bradsbrotel, Lower Pangi, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay last June 26-27, 2024.

In behalf of the Provincial Governor of Zamboanga del Norte Rosalina “Nanay Nene” Jalosjos, Waste Management Department Head, Mr. Alex Barrera attended the esteemed event.

The morning session started with a warm welcome from the Regional Director of PEMO, Mr. Alex D. Jimenez followed by the acknowledgement of participants by former PEMO Regional Director, Mr. Arturo Fadriqueta and a message of support from the EMB Director, Ms. Jacqueline A. Caancan.

Pertinent topics such as National Plan of Action of the Prevention, Reduction and Management of Marine Litter (NPOA-ML) Updates, Completed UN Healthy Oceans and Clean Initiative (UN HOCCI) Project, Sharing of Experience and Lessons Learned, Water Quality Monitoring Guidelines (Clean Water Act) RA 9275, Forward “The Latest Status of the EPR Act Implementation, Household Hazardous Waste, GHG Inventory Management and Reporting System for Waste Sector we discussed by the resource speakers from various agencies, namely: Chief of SWMD, Ms. Juvina Serafin; the UN HOCCI; Engr. Dominic Careo; Chief of AQMS, Engr .Aiza A. Reyes; Ms. Delia Valdez; EMS Technical Staff, Mr. Orlando Tantoco ; and Ms. Karen C. Tandang .

The highlights of the two-day summit occurred on the second day which are the Training on the Operationalization of MRF, Tour and Demonstration of Solid Waste Management (SWM) Equipment (Municipal Ecopark of Ipil) held through the efforts of EMB Technical Staff, Engr. Jesrel Acope and LGU-Ipil.

The participants of the Zamboanga Peninsula Environment Summit Forum form part of an advocacy that guarantees the right to a safe, clean, and healthy environment. (Angelica T. Obina)
