In a bid to fortify environmental stewardship in the city, Surigao City Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II warmly welcomed the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary for Field Operations-Mindanao, Usec. Joselin Marcus E. Fragada CESO III, to the City Government of Surigao, yesterday July 27, 2023.
Accompanied by esteemed DENR officials, including Regional Executive Director Nonito M. Tamayo, CENR Officer Ruel Efren, PENR Officer Agapito T. Patubo, Usec. Fragada’s visit marked a pivotal moment in enhancing environmental commitments in the city.
The meeting fostered favorable dialogues, wherein Mayor Dumlao and Usec. Fragada addressed environmental concerns. Among the topics was the status of the Fishpond Lease Agreement in the Timberland Areas of Surigao City, which holds significant implications for the city’s ecological equilibrium.
An inspiring proposal for an Eco Village in the city was also discussed during the visit, with a focus on empowering the Indigenous People of the Badjao Community. This initiative aims to strike a harmonious balance between sustainable development and the welfare of vulnerable communities.
Mayor Dumlao’s commitment to proactively addressing ecological challenges aligns with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Usec. Fragada’s vision for a greener and more sustainable future.
