Customs operatives seized 622 grams of ketamine party drug worth more than P3 million, and arrested the claimant of the prohibited item during a so-called controlled delivery operations on Monday.

Taken into custody was Kristopher Segumbang, of Barangay Bagbaguin, Caloocan City, after he claimed ownership of a parcel delivered to his home by FedEx delivery system.

According to airport Customs statement, Segumbang claimed he is the alleged authorized representative of the parcel’s consignee, Nick Dimagiba.

The parcel arrived last May 10, 2021, from Malaysia and the content was declared as “snacks.”

However, airport Customs operatives, following X-ray examination of the parcel aided by drug-sniffing K-9, followed their hunch and opened the package for visual examination.

Airport customs examiners found 15 sachets of white coffee, whose contents turned out to be ketamine, which is classified as a dangerous drug under R.A. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Ketamine, also known as “Special K” or “K” was originally created as an anesthetic but has evolved into a  commonly abused party drug for its tranquilizing effects, according to drug enforcement agents.

The drug is included in the list of dangerous substances by the Dangerous Drugs Board.

The claimant and the seized drugs are now in the custody of the PDEA.

Last May 11, a team of airport Customs agents, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Interagency Drug Interdiction Task Group, apprehended two claimants of the party drug ecstasy at the Quezon City Postal  Office.
