Work in government offices in Baguio City and the municipality of La Trinidad in Benguet suspended effective Wednesday noon due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon.

Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong temporarily suspended works in the city government offices in his executive order due to inclement weather and to safeguard the general welfare of all persons in the city, and to allow workers and employees to go home early so that they may be secured in their residences.

The order covers all local agencies of national government offices not providing critical services subject to clearance from their respective regional or central offices.

Magalong added that the suspension of work in private establishments and offices shall be the prerogative of the head of the office.

In La Trinidad, Mayor Romeo K. Salda in his directive suspended work in all government offices and encouraged the private sector to do the same.

“Flooding of the road networks, canals, and the Balili River System and soil in the slopes, hills and mountains have been saturated, posing threats to life, property and infrastructure.” Salda said.

He ordered the offices providing medical and emergency services – particularly, the MDRRMO, Municipal Engineering Office, General Services Office, MSWDO and MHSO, including the La Trinidad Operations Center to maintain skeleton workforce to provide services and attend to medical and other emergencies

Heavy rains brought by Southwest Monsoon are continuously battering the Cordillera Region since July 10 causing landslides and flash floods.
