DENR IX, in coordination with the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) IX, PENRO Zamboanga del Sur, and CENRO Ramon Magsaysay, conducted a series of Community Engagement and Advocacy Activities on November 12 at the Covered Court, Plaza Luz, Pagadian City.
The event featured a message from EMB IX Regional Director Engr. Alex D. Jimenez, who emphasized the importance of clean air and the ongoing efforts to support this cause. He also expressed gratitude to the participants for their active involvement in the event.
The activities began with the Community PanTREE, where community members received fruit and forest tree seedlings. This was followed by the Compassion in Action Gift Giving/Love Drive, which fostered a sense of community spirit. Participants then joined a ZUMBA session that promoted fitness and unity. The event also featured the Dance for Earth with Senior Citizens of Zamboanga del Sur Contest, showcasing the talents and energy of the senior community. The winners were Belinda Mayormita and Judie Arquisal (1st place), Jun Adorna and Elsa Laxilla (2nd place), and Justino Luspo, Jr. and Liwayway Miñoza (3rd place).
The Jam for Earth: Battle of the Bands added a musical highlight to the day, featuring performances from various local school bands. The competition concluded with Omami Band of Yllana Bay View College securing first place, Fixus Gripp of JH Cerilles State College – Mati Campus taking second place, and Kabatan National High School Band earning third place. The objective of the Earth Jam was to amplify the youth’s call for clean air and raise awareness about climate change.
These activities underscored the collective effort toward environmental advocacy and community engagement, demonstrating DENR IX’s commitment to fostering awareness and participation in sustainable initiatives. The activities were held in observance of National Environmental Awareness Month, Clean Air Month, and Climate Change Consciousness Week.
