Citystars, Islanders extend win streak

MANILA and Boracay defeated their respective opponents Thursday night to stretch their winning streaks to three games in the Manila Bankers Life-Pilipinas Super League Pro Division Second Conference Dumper Cup at the Rizal Technological University Gym in Mandaluyong City.

Rence Alcoriza fired a game-high 19 points and grabbed five rebounds to steer the Citystars to an 81-74 victory over Koponang Lakan ng Bulacan.

Macky Acosta barely missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Levi Dela Cruz added 10 points for Manila, which maintained the grit and effort it showed in an 89-79 win over Cagayan de Oro-PSP last week and climbed to 5-3 won-lost for seventh place.

Bulacan failed to do an encore to a 100-57 shellacking of Bagong Cabuyao-Homelab Nation last December 28 and fell to 3-3.

Former Philippine Basketball Association star Mac Cardona wound up with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists as the Islanders trounced Cagayan de Oro, 89-82.

Jaymar Gimpayan turned in a double-double of 19 points and 16 rebounds for Boracay.

Johnsherick Estrada also scored 17 points and dished off five assists as the Islanders improved to 4-4 for eight spot.

Coming off a 79-89 setback at the hands of the Citystars last week, Cagayan de Oro tumbled to a 1-7 card.

Leo Najorda scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds for Bulacan, while Mark Pangilinan and Keanu Caballero got 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Jayvee Dela Cruz paced Cagayan de Oro with 15 points, while Omar Larupay had 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Ian Yutuc, Jopet Soriano, and Jeff Comia also combined for 36 points for Cagayan de Oro.
