The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) visited Surigao City to discuss pivotal proposals for aquatic development, today, October 2, 2023.

Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II, Vice Mayor Alfonso S. Cassura, and Congressman Robert Ace Barbers welcomed the PFDA representatives for a meeting and site visit earlier today.

PFDA’s key members, including General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan, Assistant General Manager Iris R. De Vera, Department Manager III Danilo A. Axalan, Jose A. Ruiz Jr., and Legal Officer Fatima Dennise D. Briones-Mejica, were present during the City Planning and Development’s proposal presentation.

The presentation included a substantial plan to enhance Surigao City’s Mariculture Park and Fish Landing Port.

Central to the proposal is the establishment of a cutting-edge fish landing facility, strategically positioned at the PACEMCO Port Compound, Baybay Magallanes PFDA Compound, and the Existing Fish Landing, with an estimated cost of 100 million pesos.

Additionally, discussions centered on developing a mariculture park in Brgy. Nabago. PFDA strongly emphasizes fish conservation and sustainable management, aiming to bolster fish sufficiency and food security, leading to a more prosperous community.

This development initiative, backed by substantial investment and sustainability goals, highlights Surigao City’s dedication to preserving its aquatic heritage and envisioning a future abundant with fish resources.
