The City Government of Surigao officially launched the 54th Charter Day Inter-Agency Sportsfest 2024 at the City Gymnasium.

City Councilors Noel Christian Catre Jr., Joshua Geli, Karl Duane Casurra, Baltazar Abian, Joenil Aldonza, Joseph Joey Yuipco, and SK Federated President Jenelyn Edulzura attended the opening ceremony, along with City Legal Officer Atty. Lex Joshua Andrew Silvosa, City Administrator Atty. Cristina Pariñas, City Budget Officer Atty. Jeffrey Galido, and various department heads.

During the ceremony, the crowd was treated to an impromptu dance performance by city officials, department heads, and Mayor Paul Dumlao, adding an unexpected and lively touch to the event.

The sportsfest, a much-anticipated annual event, features participants from seven units across different City Government offices, including the City Mayor’s Office, Sangguniang Panlungsod, Liga ng mga Barangay, among others. Participating offices will compete in various games such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, dart, chess, table tennis, tug of war, and traditional Filipino games (Laro ng Lahi).

The event highlights the unity and camaraderie among the city’s public servants as they engage in friendly competition while celebrating Surigao’s rich history and promising future.

The sportsfest will run throughout the month as part of the broader Charter Day activities leading up to the city’s fiesta celebration. (Mark James Lisondra)
