Cebu City – Mipadayag sa ilang simpatiya ang Cebu Citizens-Press Council (CCPC) ngadto sa kauban sa buhat nga mga news organization labot sa libel complaints nga gipasaka ni Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi ug businessman Dennis Uy ngadto kanila.
Ang mga gikiha nga news organization naglakip sa ABS-CBN, Business World, Philstar, Manila Bulletin, GMA News Online, ug Mirror.
“We deplore the filing of libel complaints by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and businessman Dennis Uy against seven news media outlets that reported on the graft complaint filed against Cusi and Uy over the Malampaya gas field buyout. The lawsuit carries a P200 million demand for damages,” unang parapo sa official statement sa CCPC.
Alang sa CCPC nga si Cusi isip usa ka public official expected nga mo respond sa adverse news ug comments pinaagi sa explanation ug correction, kung dunay may error nga na himo.
“He must recognize that he is a public figure (so is Uy because of his high-profile involvement in major public issues, the subject is of public interest and covered by privileged communication and thus is not presumed to be malicious,”pasabot sa CCPC.
Miabot ug 17 ka mga respondents ang nalakip sa kaso nga matod pa gi “dragged” ni Cuis sa korte.
Gihulagway sa pundok sa Cebu Press nga ang maong nga respondents igo lang kini naghimo sa ilang trabaho.
“The news reports were not concocted or distorted. They were based on a document filed with the ombudsman, a press conference and a press release. If Cusi didn’t know basic journalism and constitutional protection of free press and free speech, his publicist and lawyers do,” dugang pasabot sa CCPC.
“We in the community media share the distress of the country’s journalist over the Cusi lawsuit,” padayag sa simpatiya sa CCPC ngadto sa mga kaubanan sa buhat nga nalakip sa kiha.
Mipadayag sab sa ilang suporta sa mga kauban sa buhat ang National Union of Journalist of the Philippines ug ang Economic Journalist Association of the Philippines.
