The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Monday asked for prayers for the speedy recovery of Pope Francis, who underwent colon surgery.

In brief message, CBCP president and Davao Archbishop Ramulo G. Valles said the surgery has been successful and that the Pontiff is now recovering from it.

“I enjoin everyone to pray to the Lord and beg for our Blessed Mother’s intercession for the speedy recovery of Pope Francis,” Valles said.

The operation was held in the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on July 4, 2021 and aims to treat the diverticulitis or tiny bulges or pockets in the colon of Pope Francis.

Valles urged the faithful to remember the love for Filipino, which was shown by Pope Francis during his visit in the country in 2015.

He said Filipinos could return the favor by praying the good health of Pope Francis.

“Let us pray together – clergy, religious and consecrated persons, our covenanted communities, our lay faithful, – for the complete recovery of Pope Francis.
