The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) led the groundbreaking ceremony of the “Desilting and Clearing of Waterways of Heavily-Silted River System along Tina-Cura Rivers” at Sitio Boing, Brgy. Maananteng and Brgy. Lipay, Solsona Ilocos Norte on November 13.
This is the second dredging project of PGIN, following the commencement of the dredging of Padsan River in December 2022.
Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc led the said ceremony, emphasizing that the safety of both the community and its people should be utmost priority. In addition, he mentioned that the key in order for a large-scale project to succeed is the involvement and cooperation between the provincial government, local government units (LGUs), and private sectors.
Gov. Marcos Manotoc also said that it’s their responsibility to ensure that the affected individuals would benefit from the said project and to make sure that the economic development of the province remains progressive.
Meanwhile, Atty. Yvette Leynes, Provincial Administrator and Head of the Provincial Quarry Office, explained in detail that the desilting of the Tina-Cura Rivers will measure at a length of 800 meters, a width of 50 meters, and a depth of 4 meters. In addition, the volume to be extracted from the rivers would be 160,000 cubic meters, with estimated revenue of P3.5 million. 40% of the revenue will be handed to Brgy. Lipay and Brgy. Maananteng, and the Municipal Government of Solsona and PGIN will receive 30% each.
She also expressed her gratitude for the support and investment of the stakeholders. Moreover, she appealed to the barangay officials of the concerned communities to extend their help and assist the dredging contractors in case any of their equipment gets damaged during the dredging activity.
Atty. Leynes hopes that the desilting project will bring good results and reminded all involved parties to follow the plans and rules set in order to ensure that the said project gets finished on time. (Leilanie Adriano)
