Over 70 job applicants were able to find employment after participating in the 123rd Labor Day celebration job fair held at the Robinsons Place Ilocos on Thursday.
Ailyn Joy Ambrocio, 17, a Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiary from Barangay Pagupudan-Salindeg, Currimao, Ilocos Norte, was among the 73 hired -on-the-spot as of 4 p.m.during the whole-day event joined by 43 local employers with 1,719 vacancies.
“It’s my first time to apply for a job (food service crew) and I am so happy that I was hired on the spot,”, she told the Philippine News Agency.
Aside from receiving PHP5,000 assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, all those who were hired on the spot can avail of free pre-employment laboratory services and a health certificate from the Department of Health.
Like Ambrocio, Shanel Angela Tagatac, also a 4Ps member from Barangay Tapao-Tigue, Currimao town was also hired when she applied as a crew member of a fast food chain in the city of Batac.
Tagatac, an 18-year-old senior high school graduate said she decided to apply for a job to have extra money to sustain her needs.
She is excited to gain more skills from her first job once she starts job training.
According to the Department of Labor and Employment, most of the hired-on-the-spot are service crew of food companies and sales personnel of department stores. (PNA)
