The provincial government of Ilocos Norte is set to recognize outstanding young achievers who have excelled both locally and internationally.

Set on May 2 at Vintar municipal auditorium, the Sirib Awards is an annual event institutionalized in the province to honor exemplary individuals and groups for their hard work and achievements in culture, arts, literature, sports and academics.

Willie Jake Sib-at, Ilocos Norte Youth Development officer and officer-in-charge of the Provincial Education Office, told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday that 40 persons and 25 groups who won in international events, as well as 75 persons and 34 groups who won in national events, will be awarded with certificates, medals, trophies and cash incentives from the provincial government.

In addition, there will also be six awardees in the international specials awards category and two in the national special awards category. Meanwhile, seven individuals who excelled in licensure examinations will likewise be feted.

“The provincial government has allocated a total of PHP1,191,000 cash incentives to the awardees, which range from PHP3,000 to PHP5,000 for national individual, PHP4,000 to PHP8,000 for international individual, PHP10,000 to PHP15,000 for international group, PHP5,000 to PHP8,000 for special awards, and PHP10,000 each for topnotcher,” Sib-at said.

Nominations and applications for the 12th Sirib Awards opened in February.

“We have been doing this annually to show our appreciation for the young Ilocano achievers both at the national and international levels. It is also meant to inspire other young Ilocanos to dream big and make their dreams a reality,” Sib-at said.
