The Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte, under the leadership of Governor Robert Lyndon S. Barbers, held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Provincial Agricultural Trading Center (Bagsakan Center) last Friday, June 28, 2024.

The P30-million Bagsakan Center will be established on a one-hectare land donated by the Cortes Development Corporation in Brgy. Luna, Surigao City. This center will serve as a consolidation and display area for local products from the province.

Gov. Barbers said that the Bagsakan Center aims to support farmers and fisherfolks by increasing their income and managing the prices of commodities.

According to the Department of Agriculture in Caraga Region (DA-13), the Bagsakan Center will manage the inflow and outflow of farm and fishery products in the city and province, ensuring reasonable and competitive prices for consumers and producers.

The facility will includeincludee a display area, dry storage, cold storage, packaging area, bay area for loading and unloading, public restrooms, and a parking area.

Governor Barbers and DA-13 Executive Director Arlan Mangelen led the groundbreaking ceremony. The event was also attended by Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II, Vice Mayor Alfonso Casurra, Vice Governor Eddie Gokiangkee Jr., Brgy. Luna Captain Niel Vincent Aldonza, and Vice President of Cortes Development Corporation Renato Cortes.

This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the agricultural economy of Surigao del Norte, benefiting both producers and consumers alike. (Mark James Lisondra)
