BACOLOD CITY – The newly-dredged portion of the Tamburong Creek in Barangay Biak-Na-Bato, La Castellana, was filled up again by volcanic sediment due to heavy rains , Incident Management Team commander Remuel Lajo disclosed over-the-weekend.
Lajo also called for the fast tracking of the clearing and immediate hauling of volcanic materials, so that it will not return into the creek when there are rains.
Almost 1,000 cubic meters of volcanic material has been taken from the creek, as of September 10.
On Sept. 11, the muddy stream flowed through the creek, but it did not overflow, Lajo said.
An estimated 28,000 cubic meters need to be removed from the creek to prevent flooding.
After the rain stopped, the clearing operation at the creek immediately resumed, Lajo said, as he also called on the Department of Public Works and Highways to help in the clearing.
With the intervention of the Negros Occidental 5th district Representative Emilio Bernardino Yulo, Lajo said he believes that DWPH may be convinced to extend help in the clearing operations. (Gilbert Bayoran viatvds)
