BACOLOD CITY — The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region is exploring more options for its permanent headquarters after receiving site offers from three other local government units in Negros Occidental.
The Bacolod City government recently offered a four-hectare property within the 17-hectare Abada Arao Relocation Site in Barangay Vista Alegre.
In a recent media interview, Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, acting regional director of PRO-NIR, said the proposed Bacolod site is not yet final, as the local governments of Bago City, Sagay City, and Murcia have also signified their intention to donate properties for the regional headquarters.
“We’re looking into all of these options and will recommend to the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) if where is the advantageous site,” he added.
Cardiño expressed gratitude to the local governments for considering the establishment of the headquarters in their areas.
Last month, Cardiño met with Sagay City officials to discuss the proposed lot donation for the headquarters.
The meeting underscored the partnership between the Philippine National Police and the Sagay City government in advancing initiatives aimed at enhancing public safety, improving police services, and supporting the development of the newly established regional police office.
Early this month, the PRO-NIR Chaplain Service broke ground on a three-hectare lot donated by the Sagay City government for the construction of the Regional Special Training Unit-NIR in Barangay General Luna.
In 2024, officials also raised the possibility of establishing the regional headquarters on a 500-hectare property owned by Central Philippines State University in Barangay Tagucon, Kabankalan City.
Final plans for that proposal, however, have yet to be confirmed.
PRO-NIR was established to serve the Negros Island Region, which covers Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor, as part of efforts to streamline police services and coordination across the region. (Glazyl M. Jopson via tdg photo by tdg)
