Bacolod City – An ordinance declaring the chicken inasal as a cultural property of Bacolod City, was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod on third and final reading recently.

The ordinance authored by Councilor Em Ang will be known as the Chicken Inasal Cultural Property Rights Ordinance.

TasteAtlas.com, an online food critic website that ranks different dishes and cuisines around the world, ranked the “chicken inasal” as 5th among all chicken dishes around the world, it said.

In the same above-mentioned website, chicken inasal was described as “a unique Filipino grilled chicken dish which originated in Bacolod City and became the signature dish of the entire Visayas region, “the ordinance said.

As early as the 1970’s, Bacolod City already has “Chicken Alley”, a predecessor to the renowned Manokan Country, a street lined with food stalls serving freshly charcoal-grilled chicken inasal, it said.

To preserve and protect the rights of Bacolod City to the chicken inasal as its cultural property, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) deems it proper to pass this ordinance, the ordinance said.

The Bacolod City Tourism Office (BCTO) will register chicken inasal to the Philippine Registry of Cultural Property under the National Commission for Culture and Arts as a “local important cultural property, it added.” (Chrysee Semillano via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
