Bacolod City – Negros Occidental logged 39 cholera cases, with two deaths, according to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang.
Tumimbang said that based on initial reports, the death of a 70-year-old woman in Manapla was triggered by severe dehydration, although they are still waiting laboratory test results.
He added that they are still confirming if eight others residents of Manapla who were hospitalized, have been contracted cholera.
Manapla Mayor Manuel Escalante Jr. called on town residents to temporarily refrain from buying food from ambulant vendors and carinderias and only drink purified water, due to rising cholera cases in the municipality.
Talisay City has the most number of cholera cases at 17, followed by Silay City – 13, EB Magalona – 6, Victorias City 2 and one in Cadiz City.
The two cholera deaths were reported in EB Magalona and Silay City.
