Bacolod: NegOcc logs 12 dengue-related deaths, cases soar to 4,484

    Bacolod City – Health authorities reported 12 dengue-related deaths in Negros Occidental, including highly-urbanized Bacolod City, with total cases further increasing to 4,384, as of August 2.

    A report of the Provincial Health Office recorded eight dengue related deaths and 3, 813 cases, from January 1 to Aug. 2, compared to 2,347 cases in the same period, registering a hike of 62.46 percent.

    In highly urbanized Bacolod City, the City Health Office logged four deaths related to dengue, and a total of 671 cases in the same period, showing an increase of 35 percent, compared to 497 cases and two deaths in the previous year.

    Bago City remains among the top 10 local government units in Negros Occidental with the most number of dengue cases, having 898 cases, followed by La Carlota City – 382, Kabankalan City – 352, San Carlos City – 196, Cauayan – 148, Isabela – 147, Silay City – 144, Hinigaran – 127, La Castellana – 104, and 100 in Pontevedra.

    Almost all 31 component cities and municipalities of Negros Occidental have logged dengue cases.

    In Bacolod City, Barangay Mansilingan logged the most dengue cases at 68.

    The age group with most cases ranges from 11 to 20 years old, according to health authorities.

    The Department of Health has recommended several preventive measures against dengue fever, emphasizing the 4-S strategy, which includes the Search and destroy of mosquito breeding sites, Self-protect by using insect repellent, Seeking early consultation, and Supporting fogging/spraying in hotspot areas.

    Additionally, the DOH also encourages community participation in clean-up drives and emphasizes the importance of proper waste disposal to eliminate potential breeding grounds. (Gilbert Bayoran via tvds)
