Bacolod City – Kanlaon Volcano emitted ash on June 2, with plumes reaching up to 1,200 meters high, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The ash emission recorded by PHIVOLCS was between 1:38pm to 2:07pm on Monday from the Kanlaon Volcano summit crater, generating grayish plumes that drifted in a westerly direction.
Alert Level 3 prevails over Kanlaon Volcano, indicating a high level of volcanic unrest.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council warned those in Negros Occidental to take precautions against possible ashfall.
Prior to the ash emission, PHIVOLCS logged five volcanic quakes and the emission of 1,844 tons of sulfur dioxide on June 1.
On May 31, the Office of Civil Defense lifted the prohibition of entry into the danger zone during the window period from 6am to 4pm, which allows farmers to carry out farming and other essential activities. (Gilbert Bayoran via tvds)
