Bacolod: Capitol identifies 200 hectares for food security

Bacolod City – Amid reports of food crisis to be experienced not only in the country, but worldwide, the provincial government of Negros Occidental wants to ensure food security among the Negrenses.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz disclosed that work is now underway to utilize 200 hectares of land in the different areas of Negros Occidental for agriculture and livestock purposes.

“We are meeting with the veterinarians, the farmers and agriculture sectors, so we could already start whatever programs, to produce our food requirements,” Diaz said.

Hopefully we can see a planting synchronization efficiency of all our productive lands, he said.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, in his inaugural address at the Provincial Capitol Grounds in Bacolod City over the weekend, said that the Provincial Veterinary Office and Office of the Provincial Agriculturist will complement and integrate their services to provide our people sufficient food sources — livestock, poultry, swine, crops, vegetables and marine products.
