Bacolod City – The Bacolod South Road’s connectivity, particularly along the Kabankalan-Hinobaan section, has been significantly enhanced with improvements made by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office upgraded portions of Bacolod South Road, specifically connecting Kabankalan City to Ilog, and linking Ilog to Cauayan towns.
Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel said the road improvements aim to ensure better mobility and more convenient transport of goods and services.
“These all-weather concrete pavements will facilitate the efficient transport and delivery of goods from agricultural lands to market hubs, milling stations, and other economic centers,” Oropel said.
He added that the road improvement will also benefit pedestrians and motorists, minimizing vehicle wear and tear, which will significantly help vehicle owners and operators.
Oropel emphasized that the installation of safety devices along these sections will reduce the risk of road accidents and improve travel, especially at night.
He further stressed that these enhanced transportation systems are crucial in bolstering socio-economic development in localities, benefiting the commuting public by improving their daily lives.
Funded under the FY 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the ₱67.5-million project connecting Kabankalan City and Cauayan involved the construction of a 2.357-kilometer service road, divided into two sections located in Barangay Dancalan, Ilog, and Barangay Linaon, Cauayan.
The project included the reconstruction of a 2-lane inner road in section 1 and the widening of a 314-meter road in section 2.
Additionally, safety devices were installed to reduce road accidents and enhance night-time travel. Stone masonry for lined canals, slope protection on both sides of the road, and solar flush studs at strategic points were also provided.
Meanwhile, the ₱67.5-million project between Kabankalan City and Ilog improved a 4-lane road, including the reconstruction of the carriageway with upgraded thickness.
This project also involved the installation of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings and illuminated solar pavement-level marker studs to facilitate smoother and more convenient travel.
The project further included the installation of pipe culverts and sidewalks with curbs and gutters to ensure pedestrian safety and prevent flooding during heavy rains.
