Bacolod City – Armyworm infestations in Negros Occidental have damaged P37.32 million worth of corn farms, affecting 3,961 farmers, as of July 30, according to a report of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).

Negros Occidental 5th district Rep. Emilio Bernardino Yulo, however, disclosed on Monday that the infestation is now minimal, especially in his district, which he attributed to the climatic conditions.

OPA records indicated that 2,504.6 hectares of corn farms in 77 barangays were attacked by armyworms, with San Carlos City reporting the highest value of damage at P9.4 million, affecting 663.38 hectares which is tilled by 852 farmers in nine of its villages.

Yulo said they used the recommended chemicals for neutralizing the armyworms.
