The Commission on Elections reported that a total of 2,086 Negrenses registered on the first day of voter registration on February 12, in Negros Occidental, which Provincial Election supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria described as a “good start.”

The voter registration, which will end Sept. 30 this year, is in line with the 2025 midterm elections.

Hopefully it will be sustained, Ananoria said, as they targeting the registration of 200,000 voters in Negros Occidental.

The first day of voter registration ended without any hitches, he added.

Highly urbanized Bacolod City logged the highest number of voters at 302, followed by Victorias with 179 registrants, and Himamaylan City trailing behind with 145 applicants.

The Comelec is also set to implement its Registration Anywhere Program (RAP) on Feb. 23, which will allow voters who are either working or studying in capital towns and cities, as well as highly-urbanized cities like Bacolod City to register in their hometowns.

It will be attended by all Election Officers of 32 local government units in Negros Occidental, which will be held at SM Mall in Bacolod City, according to Ananoria.

The program aims to make it easier to register, reactivate, and transfer registration for voters, he added.

The filing of the Certificates of Candidacy for midterm elections is slated for October this year.
