The Land Transportation Office (LTO) regional office 9 has revealed that region 9 has a  600,000 motorcycle plate backlog.

Atty. Aminola Abaton, LTO 9 regional director told RPN DXXX Zamboanga, this backlog started in 2014.

Of these 600,000 motorcycle plates backlog, 350,000 are from Zamboanga City.

He said, hopefully by December the backlog can be served.

The aim of the office is, after the purchase of the vehicle the papers and vehicle plate will come together.

Recall, the LTO stopped releasing the number plates due to the temporary restraining order (TRO) issued by the Supreme Court and notice of disallowance (ND) by the Commission on Audit in 2016. Both were lifted in 2018.

The distribution of plates was further delayed as the LTO awaited the final enhanced design of the plates in compliance with the requirements of the Republic Act 11235 or the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act of 2019.

The enhanced design, was finalized after the implementing rules and regulations was issued in May 2020, has new safety features, such as the RFID sticker, QR Code, and reflectorized sheeting. (R.G. A A. Go)
